Meet Some of Our After School Children

God blessed us richly this school year with more than 50 children enrolled in our After School Ministry! Here are pictures of 7 for you to meet. Watch for more pictures here soon! Our After School Program ministers to children in K-6th grades and their families. We are anticipating more than 100 children will enroll in our After School program in 2017. Please pray for these children and their families as we minister to them.

Will You Provide a Gift of Love to Help 20 More Children?

Construction of Our Second Casita

Construction on our second Casita was started earlier in 2016 with the installation of in ground plumbing, sidewalks (between our first Casita and other Children’s Village buildings) and pillars for the new Casita porch. . Construction on the structure is scheduled to begin by the fall of 2017 as God provides the funds. The construction of our second Casita will give Promise Home the opportunity to provide a home for a total of 40 children.

Promise Home is now providing a home for 10 children in Casita #1 and anticipates God will lead 10 more children to us by or before the summer of 2017. This will place us at full capacity based on our available facilities. We are able to build our second Casita, with the help of mission team volunteers, for about $125,000. Our facilities masterplan calls for the construction of a total of 4 Casitas, as God provides. This will give capacity for us to provide housing and daily care for 80 abused, abandoned and neglected children.

It is important to note that we have had opportunity to take in older children. However, we will only be able to provide housing and care for older children when we are able to house older boys and girls in separate facilities and also separate from our babies and younger children.

If God touches your heart to help provide for the needs of Promise Home, the children of Promise Home will be blessed along with you by your faithfulness! We sincerely appreciate your visionary support in the past, and whatever God may lead you to do now, and pray for God’s richest blessings on you and your family.

Christmas Greeting from the Fowlers

Marcus, Dakota & Lisa Fowler

Marcus, Dakota & Lisa Fowler

[Marcus & Lisa Fowler serve as our Missionaries on our campus in El Portillo. Marcus is our Community Ministries Director & lisa is our Children’s Division Director.]

We arrived at the San Pedro Sula Airport with three duffel bags and a couple of other items on November 1st, 2016. Kirk and Bill both had shared that we would be hitting the ground running. They weren’t kidding! Since then, we’ve had a few hours off each day, but we are leading, assisting, and involved in community ministry constantly.

The little ones here in Promise Home are certainly enjoying life. When we walk into their casita each morning as a family, they greet us with all the excitement, kicks and squeals that you would expect from kids under three. We have family devotions, sing a song, and pray together. It never gets old and there’s some new challenge to be faced each morning. Of course, there is a lot of play time and interaction. Presently, we’re helping them learn to use Dakota as a climbing gym…preferably the majority of them at the same time.

El Portillo believes in going to church. Promise Home Church gives them full opportunity to exercise their faith. We have services for adults all week and a special service for the children on Sunday morning. We have recently started a Discipleship Class and Leadership Training on Wednesday nights. We are working on developing a core group to evangelize other communities. Eventually, God permitting, we’ll start another church in another unreached area.

El Portillo School is enjoying our partnership a couple of days each week. We are involved with an after school program that is a lot of fun. The three classes remind me of the old saying: come on in and have some fun…be careful or you may learn something.

Today (December 3rd) is graduation day for the school. We’ll be celebrating with the community and encouraging the students and their parents to continue the educational process. For some of them, this will be the pinnacle of their academic career. Hopefully, we’ll be able to change the mindset regarding the priority of education as our time here continues.

The future here at Promise Home and El Portillo is bright. We’re not just talking about the intensity of the Honduran sun. “Optimism” is the operational phrase we experience each day. “Cooperative” is a great way to describe the community attitude. There is no shortage of opportunity to continue living out the message that we constantly live and share: Honor God. Work Hard. Live Holy.

The Fowler family here at Promise Home wish you a very Merry Christmas. May God bless each of our families and all of our diligence in serving Him together this coming year.

Fowler Family

Friday, 25 November
(By Marcus Fowler)

Sitting down together at the table as a family is the one thing that we make sure we do. Our time of prayer and eating is always a pleasure. We’re a little slow at getting up from the table because of our fun banter. I’m sure we’re entertaining to the folks that can hear us outside.

Last night we enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal of smoked chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and oven roasted broccoli. Then, we took off for church.

We’re headed out in a few minutes to help out a young couple. I don’t know the full story “why?”. She and her boyfriend asked us to stand with her for her graduation on Saturday. Today, we go with them into Toyos to sign her certificate/diploma. It’s an honor.

She did share that our family and others at Promise Home (Mr. Bill and Mr. Kirk specifically named) had touched her heart and/or encouraged her in the Lord. Our interaction with the folks that she knows and loves inspired her. Praise God! There are lives being truly impacted by the demonstration of His love.

People are sharing that they haven’t known many folks like us (people at Promise Home). “Outsiders” come here, complete short-term work, takes a few pictures, smile, and leave. There is little follow-up. For Promise Home they “feel” the difference. It has softened their hearts and spirits. That’s why this couple and others are responding to the ministry.

The love of Christ goes further when people understand and appreciate your heart. Our actions and our words do work together in the Hands of the Lord.

More folks in the community, not in the church, are curious about us and the Promise Home ministry. They understand, “Marcos teaches the Bible and only the Bible” and “Mr Bill and Mr Kirk have helped us with jobs”. They have opened their homes and allow their kids to escort us around or come to the After school program on Tuesday and Wednesday…especially if Dakota is going to be there helping with the 4-5 year-old class. They are attending church more regularly and are getting involved in the Wednesday classes.

This is God at work. My family and I have only been here for three weeks, but God has prepared us and the hearts of people here to embrace the Gospel and the hope provided.

I do ask that you pray specifically for our ability to organize and prioritize. There is so much to be done every single day. There are so many lives impacted by each decision. A simple prayer walk down the mountain ALWAYS turns into an opportunity to minister. Some decisions impact economically and some spiritually.

Bit of a funny:
Now, that people understand that I have both a serious and fun side, they are helping me correct my Spanish grammar more. On Wednesday, the pastor and the discipleship group let me know that I need to carefully say “poquito” and not “paquito”. The first = a little bit. The second = a little kiss.

I said, “Great. We can now have a great time in church on Wednesday. One table for leadership training, one table for discipleship training, and one table for little kiss training.” The whole church fell on the ground laughing.

Time to get the day started. Love you guys very much. We sure appreciate your prayers.

Marcus, Lisa and Dakota

Julio Sanchez, Fish Business Manager

Promise Home’s Fish Business Manager: Julio Sanchez

Pictured to the left above is Julio Sanchez with his daughter Sonnie. Julio is the manager of Promise Home’s self-sustaining funding Tilapia Fish business. Also pictured (top right) are some of the 41 fish ponds and (bottom right) a view inside the fish processing plant on the Promise Home campus in Honduras. Promise Home currently has more than 600,000 Tilapia in various stages of development and is projecting a net profit this year from the fish business. Ultimately, income from the fish business and other self-sustaining funding programs will underwrite the financial needs of Promise Home’s Ministries. You can learn more about our self-sustaining funding programs here on our website. Please pray for Julio, his family and all the other staff in Honduras as they work diligently to make our self-sustaining projects profitable.

As you may well imaging, it will take some time for our self-sustaining funding programs to provide for the financial needs of Promise Home. As we are implementing the projects that have the capacity to make Promise Home totally self-supporting in the future there is opportunity for you to help today. We are moving closer every day to welcoming abused, abandoned and neglected children for residential care at the Promise Home Children’s Village and extending our reach into the El Portillo community with pre-school and after school programs. Will you help Promise Home minister to these precious children today with a one time or month gift? Please visit our Donate page to make a gift today.

Bill Hayden, Director of Operation & Founder

Bill Hayden

God gave Bill the vision for Promise Home while he was serving on a medical mission trip in Nicaragua in 2006. Since then he has worked tirelessly to lead the ministry to where it is today. As you can imagine, there have been many challenges, frustrations as well as tremendous blessings along the way. Through it all Bill has kept his eyes on Jesus and is driven by the overwhelming needs of children in Honduras. Today the vision is becoming a reality as the first children begin arriving at the orphanage in March. Bill is in Honduras now (where he spends a significant amount of his time these days) with a mission team working to finishing the required construction and other projects to insure the campus will be ready for the children. Please pray for Bill as he leads the way every day to move Promise Home closer to engaging its Mission.

Promise Home Children’s Village Casita at Sunset

This Casita will provide housing for 20 precious children at our orphanage in El Portillo, Honduras. The first of these children will arrive in March of this year.

As you reflect on this photo, please join us in praising the Lord for His gracious provision during the years of planning and preparation bringing us to where we are today! The sun is setting on the time of preparation to house abused, abandoned and neglected children in our orphanage. Much work remains to be completed on the Children’s Villages and other aspects of Promise Home’s support structure.

As the sun sets on preparations A NEW DAY IS DAWNING! This year will begin a new era for us as we not only welcome resident children but expand community ministries as well. Our plans include expanding community outreach though our church, establishing a medical clinic and starting pre-school & after school programs. Will you pray for us as we complete preparations on the Promise Home Campus? As you pray, please consider making a one time or monthly gift to Promise Home to help complete preparations and provide for the ongoing support of our ministries.
