Fowler Family

Friday, 25 November
(By Marcus Fowler)

Sitting down together at the table as a family is the one thing that we make sure we do. Our time of prayer and eating is always a pleasure. We’re a little slow at getting up from the table because of our fun banter. I’m sure we’re entertaining to the folks that can hear us outside.

Last night we enjoyed a Thanksgiving meal of smoked chicken, mashed sweet potatoes, and oven roasted broccoli. Then, we took off for church.

We’re headed out in a few minutes to help out a young couple. I don’t know the full story “why?”. She and her boyfriend asked us to stand with her for her graduation on Saturday. Today, we go with them into Toyos to sign her certificate/diploma. It’s an honor.

She did share that our family and others at Promise Home (Mr. Bill and Mr. Kirk specifically named) had touched her heart and/or encouraged her in the Lord. Our interaction with the folks that she knows and loves inspired her. Praise God! There are lives being truly impacted by the demonstration of His love.

People are sharing that they haven’t known many folks like us (people at Promise Home). “Outsiders” come here, complete short-term work, takes a few pictures, smile, and leave. There is little follow-up. For Promise Home they “feel” the difference. It has softened their hearts and spirits. That’s why this couple and others are responding to the ministry.

The love of Christ goes further when people understand and appreciate your heart. Our actions and our words do work together in the Hands of the Lord.

More folks in the community, not in the church, are curious about us and the Promise Home ministry. They understand, “Marcos teaches the Bible and only the Bible” and “Mr Bill and Mr Kirk have helped us with jobs”. They have opened their homes and allow their kids to escort us around or come to the After school program on Tuesday and Wednesday…especially if Dakota is going to be there helping with the 4-5 year-old class. They are attending church more regularly and are getting involved in the Wednesday classes.

This is God at work. My family and I have only been here for three weeks, but God has prepared us and the hearts of people here to embrace the Gospel and the hope provided.

I do ask that you pray specifically for our ability to organize and prioritize. There is so much to be done every single day. There are so many lives impacted by each decision. A simple prayer walk down the mountain ALWAYS turns into an opportunity to minister. Some decisions impact economically and some spiritually.

Bit of a funny:
Now, that people understand that I have both a serious and fun side, they are helping me correct my Spanish grammar more. On Wednesday, the pastor and the discipleship group let me know that I need to carefully say “poquito” and not “paquito”. The first = a little bit. The second = a little kiss.

I said, “Great. We can now have a great time in church on Wednesday. One table for leadership training, one table for discipleship training, and one table for little kiss training.” The whole church fell on the ground laughing.

Time to get the day started. Love you guys very much. We sure appreciate your prayers.

Promise Home Children’s Village Casita at Sunset

This Casita will provide housing for 20 precious children at our orphanage in El Portillo, Honduras. The first of these children will arrive in March of this year.

As you reflect on this photo, please join us in praising the Lord for His gracious provision during the years of planning and preparation bringing us to where we are today! The sun is setting on the time of preparation to house abused, abandoned and neglected children in our orphanage. Much work remains to be completed on the Children’s Villages and other aspects of Promise Home’s support structure.

As the sun sets on preparations A NEW DAY IS DAWNING! This year will begin a new era for us as we not only welcome resident children but expand community ministries as well. Our plans include expanding community outreach though our church, establishing a medical clinic and starting pre-school & after school programs. Will you pray for us as we complete preparations on the Promise Home Campus? As you pray, please consider making a one time or monthly gift to Promise Home to help complete preparations and provide for the ongoing support of our ministries.
