What’s Happening Now
Dateline Jan 30, 2017
In November, Promise Home helped with the graduation ceremony for our community school in El Portillo. It was great to watch the children that were in our After School Program receive their sixth grade diplomas.
Here is Marcus Fowler, Promise Home missionary, handing out a diploma.
Here in Honduras only about 15% of the children will actually enter the seventh grade. The major reason that we have our After School Program to encourage the children to stay in school.
December brought a lot of excitement at Promise Home. It was our first Christmas with our children. Everyone got in the act of decorating the tree.
We wanted to celebrate Christmas with our workers, so we had a Christmas dinner for our employees and their spouses.
In mid-January, we had our first 2017 team. The team was from Kentucky and led by Jonathan Ayer. The team had two projects.
The first project was to finish our After School building by painting the soffits and installing the guttering system.
The second project was to build the bridge over the Toyos River. The bridge will connect the village of El Portillo where we live and the next village of Aquagate.
Below is the old bridge next to our new bridge.
We want to thank the Frisco Texas Sunrise Rotary for the funds to build the bridge, Jim Murphy’s team that built the concrete anchors and Jonathan Ayer’s team that built the steel bridge.
More exciting news. We received two one year old girls at Promise Home this month. It is always fun bringing a new child to join the Promise Home family.
Thanks,
Bill
