On September 27th a team from the Heights church in Richardson, Texas came to Promise Home to start the construction on our second building for the children. The team was led by Marc Hernandez (Mr. Plumber). It was a large team so they accomplished many projects. They completed the rough out plumbing for our new Café/laundry building,
installed several hundred feet of new fencing around the new tilapia ponds
painted our new water pump house,
painted our power house,
and started painting the inside of our first casita for the children. In addition to these projects, the teams installed pilas for some very poor families in our area,
and had time to hand out rice and beans to families in our village.
The next team to arrive was a group from Indiana led by Duke Hampsch of the First Baptist Church of Vincennes, Indiana. This team came to get a closer look at Promise Home and to better understand its needs to determine how we could work together on future projects. They visited some other children homes in our area and met with our pastor, Adelmo, and two pastors from local churches. They installed a couple of pilas for the poor families in our area
and handed out beans and rice to our neighbors.
In the first week of October, Mario Aguilar from the Anderson Mill Baptist Church of Austin came to Promise Home to help us complete some projects at Promise Home. Mario with the help of our Honduran workers installed two large water tanks which will supply water to our children’s village.
We also had Todd Menges visit Promise Home. As we buried our drainage system,
Todd and Mario had a chance to learn how to use some of our power equipment at Promise Home.
This completes the team schedule for 2013 at Promise Home. It has been an exciting year with seventeen teams coming to Promise Home to help build our first children’s casita and start our Café/ laundry building for the children. They helped to install a water well to be used by our children and the people of our village. With help of these teams, we were able to grow our tilapia business from fifteen ponds to twenty eight ponds which now hold over 200,000 tilapia fish.
We want to thank all of the people who made this possible for their hard work, for their funds and most of all for their encouragement.
Bill Hayden
