The Summer of 2014 has proven to be a busy time of work both on Promise Home and in the areas surrounding the Toyos community.  We continue to move toward our vision of being a self-sufficient, Honduran-run orphanage and related ministries in the Toyos area.

In June, Family Bible Church of Highland, Illinois painted the cafeteria, ran a vacation Bible school and ran a clothing distribution with a focus on the employees of Promise Home.

They also did most of the wiring for a new aeration system for the fish ponds.

These aerators are going to allow us to more than double our fish production annually.  These improvements will help us in our goal of getting our first children in 2015.

June 22-29th, a team from First Baptist Church of Vincennes, Indiana came and did 4 days of medical/dental clinics.  These were done in Toyos, Los Olivos, and La Montanita.  The team partnered with local churches and pastors, as well as Honduran doctors, dentists, and nurses to treat over 1,000 patients. And each patient heard the Gospel message and received a Bible.  This team worked tirelessly and did fantastic ministry.

From June 29th – July 3rd, another team from First Baptist of Vincennes came to do a variety of ministries in and around Promise Home.  This team installed several pilas in Aguacate and finalized the painting of the cafeteria.  They also spent time in a local school and worked on the new electricity at the fish ponds.  This group, made up of a middle school student, high school student, college student and a few parents helped emphasize that Promise Home mission trips are open to a wide variety of people and that all gifts can be used for God’s glory and the building of the Kingdom.

During the week of July 6th – 12th, a few folks from FBC Vincennes joined the youth group from Lebanon Baptist Church in Jasonville, IN came and worked tirelessly on a variety of ministries.  This team did several days of vacation Bible school, built nearly 750 feet of fence around the new fish ponds, and installed several more pilas in Aguacate. This team again reaffirmed our belief that God is raising a generation who care passionately for the poor, oppressed, orphan and widow.

From July 5th – July 12th medical/dental team from First Baptist Church of Frisco Texas was working in our area.  Barbara Balthrop (a retired nurse) was a member of that team. She had a one day clinic at Promise Home providing care for our neighbors and our workers.

Every year Barbara comes to Promise Home and spends a day with us and we all really appreciate her help.

During the week of July 25 through July 30th, we had a team from The Heights Church in Richardson Texas come to Promise Home to work on construction projects and to minister to people in our community.

They had three major projects.  They installed the soffit pearlins on our new cafeteria.

They worked on the tilapia security fence.

They installed a water line from our water well to the village water tank.

They also spent a morning providing a VBS program for the children in our village school.

During all of these teams’ visits, there are several Hondurans who are invaluable to the ministry.  Translators, drivers, laborers and friends work side-by-side with our teams to make these trips a powerful experience for those coming, and also meaningful and beneficial for those in Honduras.  Without these workers, mission trips would not be possible.

Is your church or family interested in coming to serve in some capacity on a short-term mission trip?  Be sure to contact Bill Hayden and express interest.  Don’t miss out on this world-changing opportunity. bill.hayden@promisehome.org
